Taranto

The "Palude La Vela" Regional Oriented Nature Reserve is a protected area covering 116 hectares along the shores of the second inlet of the Mar Piccolo in Taranto. To the southwest, the reserve is bordered by the promontory known as "Il Fronte," part of which falls within the area of the 65th Fuel Depot of the Italian Air Force. To the north, it extends to the tip of the natural channel called Capo D'Ayala. The area features wetlands, salt marshes, and pine forests, providing an ideal habitat for numerous bird species, both resident and migratory. Managed by the Municipality of Taranto, the reserve is a vital site for the conservation of local biodiversity.
