Taranto

The Church of San Domenico Maggiore, originally dedicated to Saint Peter the Imperial, is a remarkable example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture located on the western front of Taranto's Old Town. Completed around 1360, the church was built on the site of an ancient Greek temple dating back to the 6th century BCE. Its façade features a central rose window and a Gothic portal. The interior, consisting of a single nave, houses several side chapels adorned with Baroque altars and significant works of art. Over the centuries, the church has undergone various restorations while preserving its original structure. Today, it stands as an important historical and cultural landmark in the city of Taranto.
