Taranto
The Old Town of Taranto, located on an island between the Mar Piccolo and the Mar Grande, is considered one of the most captivating historic centers in Italy. The ancient district, connected to the mainland by two bridges—the Ponte di Pietra and the Ponte Girevole—retains its medieval urban layout, characterized by narrow alleys and charming little squares. Among its notable landmarks are the Aragonese Castle, the Doric Temple, and the Cathedral of San Cataldo, the oldest in Puglia. Despite the challenges it has faced over the centuries, the Old Town of Taranto remains an invaluable historical and cultural treasure.
